About Amma's Place
The name Amma's Place was chosen by the home childcare provider, Carol Ford, when she was contemplating what the children would call her. Carol and her husband Garry have four adult children, who each have two children of their own. One of the eldest grandchildren, when just beginning to talk, called Garry and Carol, Ampa and Amma. While that grandchild grew into calling them the traditional Grandpa and Grandma, there are still two of their eight grandchildren who call Carol "Amma". Carol so loves that pet name, especially since these grandchildren are now teens, that she asked them if they would mind other children calling her Amma. They love the idea, so hence the name Amma's Place Home Childcare, and the children in Carol's care call her Amma.
About Carol Ford
Carol Ford began her career as an Elementary School Teacher in Welland, ON within the French Public School system. While taking maternity leave for her first born, Carol ventured into sales on a casual basis, which enabled her to contribute to the family revenue while raising their first two children over the subsequent years. When the two children were of preschool ages, and upon moving to Toronto, Carol returned to the workforce and directed a number of licensed childcare centres for several years. Carol then ventured into the corporate world and climbed the ladder very quickly, attaining executive management roles for most of her career thereafter.
In 2016, Carol and her husband decided to move from the GTA to the Niagara Region. Carol continued to serve in the role of Vice President with an iconic Canadian company in Mississauga, until deciding in March 2018 to hang her corporate hat and return to her love for making a difference in young children’s lives.
Within a short 3 months, Carol opened her own home childcare, with full registration and a long waitlist of families. Her mission from the start has been to offer families a warm homey environment for their young children, and provide a quality structured program for them to grow and develop physically, intellectually and socially prior to starting school. Carol accepts children from ages 10 months to 5 years, and school age during off-school holidays subject to availability.
In addition to the above career path, Carol has been involved in children’s programs for many years through her community church, leading Sunday School, mid-week Kids’ Clubs and other such programs. Carol and her husband both have current police checks. Carol also has her Food Handler Certificate, her Emergency First Aid & CPR Certificate and she is a Certified Therapeutic Counsellor. She is Registered with the College of Early Childhood Educators, which has earned her the designation of RECE.
In September 2019, Carol aligned her Amma's Place Home Childcare under the license of Niagara Region Home Childcare Services, but chose to then terminate that agreement in June 2020 and return to being a private home childcare provider.
Carol is thrilled to be an integral part of helping to shape the future generation through her love, teaching and guiding of all the children in her care.
